Statene Park, owned by Rob and  Mary Hanna has long been at the forefront of the development of Australian equestrian sport and warmblood breeding.

Mary and Rob share a passion for horses and a vision to see Australian riders and Australian horses make their mark at international level.  Mary has represented her country at 3 Olympic Games and Rob has enjoyed his participation in Eventing competitions.

More recently Rob was the Chef’d’Equip for the Australian Dressage Team at WEG in Jerez, Spain in 2002 and also was the Chef d’Equip for the Silver Medal winning Aussie team at the Beijing Olympics.

Together they bring a wealth of experience and a passion for equestrian sport that will support the stars of the future.

In 2006 Statene Park relocated from Macedon to Drysdale on the Bellarine Peninsula.  This property would allow a more harmonious mix of family interests and the larger land holding allowed for the development of a truly “International” training & breeding centre.

Mary says, “It is difficult to move away from heartfelt passion, and I love the breeding side of the business.  I have always believed that all facets meld together to make a very complementary ‘big picture’ -  to be a top competitor you need good horses and good training.  The Bellarine property is now set up to facilitate all aspects of our involvement in the horse industry – breeding, teaching, training horses and coaching students looking to stay over for a few days intensive work or some dedicated problem solving, it is great to be able to offer a truly European styled facility and I see it as part of the ‘coming of age’ for Australian riders.”

Statene Park is situated on 60 undulating acres with sweeping ocean views and the setting makes for a relaxed environment for both horses and riders.  The facilities include a full size outdoor and indoor arena, with adjoining stables and self contained accommodation for overnight guests and students.

The stables look out over a European styled courtyard with a fountain making an attractive centrepiece.  Mary said, “The design was important as we wanted to be sure that we kept the layout aesthetically pleasing and yet safe for the horses.  The stables look onto one side of the courtyard and our living room adjoins the other side – why should the horses have all of the nice views? This was done so that we were always intone with the horse’s comfort and safety.  Even if no one is riding or working in the stable area, we can see that the horses are safe and well – this is important to all of us.”

Gitte is now very involved in the business and has her own students – so Statene Park is a true family business with the development of Australian riders and the improvement of the horses they ride our main objective.  Gitte has a family of her own and is delighted to have the support and help of her husband Lee.  She hopes that one day baby Mietta will carry on the family tradition.

The future is very exciting as Mary and Gitte progress their respective Dressage horses.  Statene Park have recently imported a great young stallion prospect by Jazz who will be broken in, early 2009 and will come through the young horse classes.

"He is a very good mover and is an outstanding prospect for future international competition.”

Statene Park invite enquiries regarding all aspects of their business and looks forward to a future with as many interesting highlights as the past.
